That was a (bad) joke. I have colleagues who study and design tools to encourage student comprehension of and retention in MOOCs. “Unicorn” is a colloquial term they use to describe the elusive few students who actually finish an online course. The attrition rate for these courses is very high. So, even if, as you say, “tons of people” finished the courses (as I have no doubt there are), each of them would be unicorns in their own right :)
